Biography

Amr Mohamed received his M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, 2001, and 2006 respectively. He received his B.S. from Cairo University in 1993. He worked as a senior software engineer in IBM Innovation Centre in Vancouver from 1998 to 2007 taking a leadership role in many software development projects. Between 2001 and 2006 Dr. Mohamed was working as a research assistant in the Lab for Advanced Networking at the University of British Columbia. Since 1994 Amr has been working as a Research and Teaching Assistant at the National Telecommunication Institute, Cairo, Egypt. His research interests include networking and Medium access control layer techniques in wired, wireless, and WDM optical networks, resource optimization for wired and wireless ad hoc networks, cross-layer communication systems design and modeling, uni-rate and multi-rate multicast communications, QoS for WDM Networks, videoconferencing, video Broadcast/Multicast, and MPEG4 video streaming. Dr. Mohamed has authored or co-authored 20 refereed journal and conference papers, with one awarded best paper for the month from GESTS trans on computing, Korea and one book. He also received 2 team awards and 1 individual award for his accomplishments at IBM.
